Tigers Come From Behind with Ninth-inning Run to Win, 5-4, Tuesday Over Santa Barbara City

RIVERSIDE -- Peter McEvoy blooped a two-out single into shallow left field and John Gonzalez raced home from first base to score the winning run as the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers baseball team came from behind to post a 5-4 non-conference home win over the visiting Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 11) at Samuel C. Evans Park.

McEvoy, a red-shirt freshman short stop from Colorado Springs, CO (Pine Creek [CO] HS '15), lofted a pop fly into shallow left field as the SBCC left fielder was playing back and Gonzalez, sophomore LF from Corona (Corona HS '15) brought home the winning run.

Riverside City (25-8 overall) staked the Vaqueros to leads of 3-0 & 4-2.

Santa Barbara City (19-13 overall) led, 1-0, in the top of the fifth on a lead-off triple by CF Joseph Hamilton, who then scored on a two-out sacrifice fly by RF Reinhard Lautz. In the 6th, SBCC led, 3-0, on a solo home run by Tyler Rosen (the first of two round trippers on the day) and a double by DH Jake Holton, who then scored on a RBI single by catcher Zack Stockton. RCC crept to within, 3-2, on a two-run single by sophomore 2B Garrett McKee (Hemet - Hemet HS '15) in the bottom of the sixth.

Rosen's second solo shot of the day gave the Vaqueros a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh, before RCC tied the game with a two-run dinger by sophomore 1b Ryan Mota (Fontana - Kaiser HS '14), who is pictured. It was Mota's 11th home run of the season.

Sophomore RHP Daniel Agramont (Eastvale - Roosevelt HS '15), who came on in relief in the top of the eighth inning faced seven batters and allowed one hit to notch the victory and improve to 4-0. Steven Elliott, who came on in relief in the eighth inning and surrendered Mota's game-tying home run, pitched the final 1-2/3 innings and sustained his first loss of the season (6-1).

Riverside will return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, Apr. 12, when it hosts the Ventura College Pirates in a non-conference home game at 3 p.m. Santa Barbara will host the Orange Coast Pirates on Thursday, Apr. 13.
