Sheehan's Game-winning RBI Single Lifts Riverside to Ten-inning, 1-0 Win over Host Golden West Saturday

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Casey Sheehan lofted a soft line drive over second base for a RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning to lift the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's baseball team to a ten-inning, 1-0 win over the host Golden West College (GWC) Rustlers Saturday afternoon (May 14) in game two of a best-of-three California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California (SoCal) Regional second-round playoff series.

Sophomore catcher Tommie Pincin (Upland / Upland HS '14) came into the game as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh. (RCC was the "home team" on the field and batted last.) In the tenth, Pincin singled deep into the hole at short stop and was sacrificed to second. With two outs, sophomore CF Sean Smith (Highland / Redlands East Valley HS '13) was walked intentionally on a 3-2 pitch. After a pitching change and a wild pitch, Sheehan, a sophomore DH from Redlands (Redlands East Valley HS '14) delievered the game-winning hit as Pincin scored from third base.

Riverside City (25-17 overall), the No. 18 (and last) seed in the SoCal Regionals, had been shut-out for 14 straight innings in the series until the tenth. RCC previously had scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-5 lead before GWC rallied with a solo home run in the eighth and then added an unearned run in the bottom of the twelfth for a 7-6 win in Game One of the series Friday afternoon (May 13).

No. 3-seeded Golden West (26-14 overall) and starting sophomore RHP Cody Marshall were sailing along in the heretofore scoreless tie as he scattered four hits and allowed the eventual game-winning run (earned). In 9-2/3 innings, Marshall walked three and struck out nine as his record fell to 4-5. GWC reliever Joshua Gogue surrendered the game-winning hit to Sheehan.

RCC freshman reliever Cole Young (Corona / Norco HS '14 / USC) pitched two perfect innings and improved his record to 2-2.

In the three-game OEC series this season (Apr. 5, 7, and 8), GWC swept RCC, 3-0, by the game scores of 3-1, 5-1, and 5-0, with the middle game at GWC.

The deciding Game Three of the series will be played on Sunday, May 15, at 12 p.m. at Fred Hoover Field on the GWC campus.

Five Tigers had two hits as Sheehan hit a two-run home run in the third for a brief 4-1 RCC lead.
