Tigers Get Shut-out for Second Time This Season, Lose, 5-0, at Home to Irvine Valley Tuesday

Tigers Get Shut-out for Second Time This Season, Lose, 5-0, at Home to Irvine Valley Tuesday

RIVERSIDE – Austin Reynolds pitched a complete game and helped his cause with a first-inning RBI single and the visiting Irvine Valley College (IVC) Lasers went on secure a 5-0 road win over the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's baseball team in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 26) at Evans Sports Complex.

Reynolds, a freshman RHP from Canyon HS, had only pitched 10.0 innings (7.20 earned run average) all season (including one previous start) and allowed only two Tigers to reach third base in a masterful performance. In the route-going effort, Reynolds, who made 130 pitches (77 strikes), scattered six hits and allowed only three walks along with four strikeouts to improve to 2-0 for Irvine Valley (14-20 overall, 5-14 OEC).

His counterpart, RCC starting sophomore RHP Angel Delgado (Beaumont / Beaumont HS '13) didn't fare as well. Delgado, who had two hard-hit comebackers ricochet off him (right shin and right ankle area) lasted only 3-1/3 innings and allowed all five runs (three earned) on nine hits (zero walks) with two strikeouts as his record fell to 6-3 for Riverside City (19-15 overall, 7-12 OEC).

Irvine Valley opened the scoring in the first inning. Singles by sophomore LF Clint Jack (Huntington Beach HS) and sophomore 3B Kyle Golden (Tesoro HS) set the table for the Lasers. Sophomore SS Jordan Gillerman (Canyon HS) had a RBI single for a 1-0 lead. A ground out to third base made it 2-0 and Reynolds made it 3-0 with a RBI single.

In the second, freshman 1B Cole Joy (Mission Viejo HS) singled and scored, and Golden had a RBI single and scored (unearned) on a RBI double by Gillerman. Jack, Golden and Gillerman each had three hits for IVC.

RCC had only two runners reach third base: sophomore CF Sean Smith (Highland Redlands east Valley HS '13), who doubled to left-center field in the third inning with two outs, and sophomore SS Brody Weiss (Denver, CO / Regis Jesuit HS '13). Weiss -- who is pictured -- went two for four to lead RCC.

RCC reliever Christian Stiegele (Murrieta / Murrieta Mesa HS '15) pitched 4-2/3 shut-out innings and allowed only three hits in relief of Delgado.in the third game of the series

The only other time that Riverside City was shut-out this season was earlier this month when Golden West turned the trick in a 5-0 win at RCC in the series finale (Apr. 8).

Both teams return to OEC action on Thursday, Apr. 28, at 2 p.m. when Riverside City visits Irvine Valley in the second game of a three-game OEC series. The series and regular season finale will be at RCC on Friday, Apr. 29, at 2 p.m.
