Cuesta Posts 5-2 Win at Riverside Saturday

RIVERSIDE – The Cuesta College Cougars broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning and added a run in the eighth and went on to post a 5-2 non-conference victory over the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's baseball team Saturday afternoon (Feb. 20) at the Evans Sports Complex.

Cuesta (5-5 overall) saw freshman OF Cayce Rocco (Santa Maria / Righetti HS) drive in freshman LF Will Ruiz (Delano / Cesar Chavez HS) with the go-ahead score on a RBI double. Rocco later scored an insurance run on a RBI double by sophomore CF Dustin Miller (Clayton / De La Salle HS) for a 4-2 lead.

Ruiz went three for five for Cuesta.

In four games played this season, each team has won once and lost once on each other's field.

Riverside (8-3 overall) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singles by freshman 1B John Gonzalez (Corona / Corona HS '15) and sophomore C Tommie Pincin (Upland / Upland HS '14).

Freshman starting RHP Sabino Ramirez (Cathedral City HS '14) went the first 5-2/3 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on 11 hits, walked none and struck out four as he absorbed his first loss of the season (3-1). In four games (all starts) his earned run average is 1.37 through 26.1 innings.     

Sophomore RF Casey Sheehan (Redlands / Redlands East Valley '14 / UC Riverside) went two for three for RCC.

Riverside returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23, when it hosts the Mt. San Antonio College (MSAC) Mounties in a non-conference game at 6 p.m.
