Riverside Reels Off Sixth Straight Win with 5-2 Home Win Friday Over East Los Angeles

RIVERSIDE -- Sophomore starting RHP Angel Delgado went 8-1/3 innings before getting touched for a pair of runs as the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers baseball team posted a solid 5-2 non-conference home win over the East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Huskies Friday afternoon (Feb. 12) at the Evans Sports Complex.

Delgado, who hails from Beaumont HS '13, was sailing along through eight innings until a lead-off ground-rule double to right field and a single up the middle surrounding a strikeout forced his departure. All told, Delgado went 8.1 innings and allowed two runs (both earned) on four well-scattered hits with one walk and nine strikeouts to improve to 2-1.

In came sophomore RHP Andrew O'Brien who uncorked a wild pitch allowing the first ELAC run to score. DH Travis McFarland then grounded out to short stop (breaking his metal bat in the process) to drive in Larson Anzaldo with the Huskies' second run. O'Brien weas credited with a game finished but no save as the potential tying run was not on deck when he entered the game.

For Riverside (6-1 overall), it marked the second time this season that a shut-out evaporated in the ninth inning. The other time was in RCC's second game of the season, a 5-4 win at Cuesta (and RCC's first win of the season and of the current streak).

Freshman DH Ryan Mota (Fontana / Kaiser HS '14) went two for four for the Tigers with a double and a run scored on a double play in the second inning. In the fourth inning, Mota socked his second home run of the season, a solo shot deep to left field.

For East L.A. (2-3 overall), starting RHP George Alamillo lasted only 4.2 innings and allowed eight hits, four runs (all earned) with one walk and two strikeouts as his record fell to 0-2.

These same two teams will face each other in Monterey Park tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m.
