Five-run Fourth Powers Riverside to 7-1 Win Over Visiting College of the Desert Friday

RIVERSIDE -- Sophomore SS Brody Weiss (Denver, CO / Regis Jesuit HS) went three for five with two runs scored and sophomore starting RHP Sabino Ramirez (Cathedral City HS) pitched seven strong innings to pace the Riverside City College baseball team to a 7-1 non-conference home win over the visiting College of the Desert Roadrunners Friday afternoon at the Evans Sports Complex.

Dean Miller, a freshman 3B from Riverside (Ramona HS), slugged his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left field to give the Tigers a short-lived 1-0 lead. Freshman DH Ryan Mota (Fontana / Kaiser HS) smacked a three-run double to left field to highlight a five-run fourth inning for RCC.

Ramirez -- who is pictured -- went the first 7.0 innings and threw 99 pitches (72 strikes) and allowed one run (earned) on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts to improve to 2-0. His COD counterpart, sophomore starting RHP Jumpei Akanuma (Ritsumeikan HS), deserved a better fate as he lasted only 3.2 innings and allowed six run (one earned) on seven hits to fall to 0-1.

COD sophomore LF Dax Roerig (El Camino HS) tripled to lead off the third inning and scored on an infield out for the Roadrunners' (1-2 overall) only run.

Riverside (3-1 overall) will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 6, when it hosts the West Los Angeles College Wildcats in a 5 p.m. start.
