Schuknecht Clouts Eighth Homer; Riverside City Tops Fullerton, 9-3, Thursday
RIVERSIDE -- David Schuknecht socked a three-run home run and Angel Delgado kept the opposing batters at bay as the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers baseball team defeated the visiting Fullerton College Hornets, 9-3, in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game Thursday afternoon (Apr. 16) at Evans Sports Complex.
Schuknecht, a sophomore LF from Palm Desert, socked a 0-1 pitch over the right-field fence to cap a four-run (all unearned) uprising in the bottom of the second inning, giving Riverside City (20-13 overall, 8-10 OEC) a 7-0 lead. It was his team-leading eighth circuit clout of the season.
Schuknecht also had a RBI triple in the first inning. He finished two for four with two runs scored and four RBI. Freshman SS Brody Weiss (Denver, CO / Regis Jesuit HS) finished three for five for RCC. He had a RBI double and scored in the first, and hit a RBI single and scored in the second for the Tigers.
Oscar Heredia went three for three to pace Fullerton (20-13 overall, 9-9 OEC).
RCC sophomore starting RHP Angel Delgado (Beaumont / Beaumont HS) went the first 6-1/3 innings, scattered 12 hits, allowed three runs (all earned), walked none and struck out two to level his won-lost record at 3-3. Fullerton starting RHP Gordon Cardenas lasted only 3.0 innings as he allowed nine hits, seven runs (three earned), walked two and struck out one as his record dropped to 3-5.
Both teams continue OEC action tomorrow, Friday, April 17, at 2 p.m. when Riverside visits Fullerton.
