Riverside Remains Undefeated with an 8-1 Home Win Over Western Nevada Friday

RIVERSIDE -- Tommy Pincin went three for four and starting LHP Austin Sodders went seven strong innings as the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers baseball team took advantage of six errors and posted an 8-1 nonconference home win Friday evening (Feb. 13) over the visiting Western Nevada College (WNC) Wildcats at the Evans Sports Complex.

Pincin, a freshman catcher, got the Tigers on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when he drilled a two-run double down the left-field line to give RCC a quick 2-0 lead. Later in the first, Roosevelt "R.J." Bates socked a bases-loaded single through the left side for two more runs for a 4-0 Riverside lead as all the runs were unearned.

After allowing an earned run on a pair of singles in the top of the second inning, Sodders, a sophomore from Moreno Valley - Canyon Springs HS, found his groove and scattered eight hits (all singles), walked one and struck out six to improve to 3-0 and lowered his earned run average to 1.57 through 23.0 innings.

Riverside (8-0 overall) sandwiched single runs in the sixth and eighth innings around a two-run seventh for the final 8-1 score. Sophomore CF Logan Griffin (Apple Valley / Oak Hills HS), who scored twice, and sophomore 2B Austin Monte (Corona / Santa Ana - Mater Dei HS) each had two hits for RCC.

Western Nevada (6-3 overall), located in Carson City, made an uncharacteristic six errors in the field which accounted for six unearned RCC runs. Leadoff batter/sophomore CF Jake Bennett (Forest Grove, OR) went three for five for the Wildcats. Sophomore starting RHP Max Karnos (Archorage, AK) went the first 5.0 innings and deserved a better fate. Karnos allowed six hits, four runs (none earned), walked one and struck out four as his record leveled at 1-1.
