Tigers Win, 4-3, Saturday to Complete Three-game Sweep of Cuesta
RIVERSIDE -- For the second consecutive game, Tommy Pincin drove in the go-ahead run, this time in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers baseball team posted a come-from-behind 4-3 nonconference win Saturday afternoon (Jan. 31) over the visiting Cuesta College Cougars at the Evans Sports Complex.
Pincin (pronounced PIN-son) doubled to left field to drive in freshman 3B Brody Weiss (son of former Major League Rookie of the Year Walt Weiss), who had walked, to give RCC the 4-3 lead. Freshman LF Garrison Cole singled to open the frame, went to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a groundout and scored from third on a wild pitch. Cole was one of four Tigers with two hits as RCC collected 11 safeties.
Riverside (3-0 overall) spotted Cuesta a 3-0 lead before scoring a pair of runs in the fifth inning. to cut the deficit to 3-2. Sophomore 2B Austin Roberts singled to center with one out. Sophomore CF Logan Griffin laid down a bunt single and Roberts advanced to third on a throwing error by the Cougars' third baseman. Roberts scored on a balk and Griffin scored on a RBI single by sophomore DH Garrett Dean.
Cuesta (0-3 overall) picked up two runs in the fourth on a looping two-run double to short center field which evaded a diving Griffin.
Freshman LHP Dallas Burk came on to start the sixth inning in relief of RCC starting RHP Tyler Rowe and went two innings to notch the victory and improve to 1-0. Sophomore RHP David Robles pitched the final two frames to record his first save.
Cuesta RHP Brendan Jenkins came on in the seventh inning and received the loss (0-1).
Riverside will next play on Tuesday, Feb. 3, when it visits the Mt. San Jacinto College Eagles in a nonconference game scheduled for 2 p.m.
