Tigers Cruise to 8-3 Home Win over Santa Barbara City Wednesday
RIVERSIDE - The Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's baseball team scored early and often and cruised to an 8-3 non-conference home victory over the visiting Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) Vaqueros Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 16) at the Evans Sports Complex.
Riverside City (18-15 overall) pushed across five runs (three earned) in the bottom of the first inning to overcome a modest 1-0 deficit and then tallied thrice in the sixth inning for an 8-2 advantage.
Sophomore CF DaJohn Murray (Compton / Roosevelt HS) singled twice in two plate appearances, including a two-run base hit to cap the first-inning scoring. Sophomore SS Nick King (Palm Springs HS) singled in a pair of runs in the sixth and came around to score to account for all the runs in the frame.
Sophomore LHP Bryan Conant (Alta Loma HS) came on to start the fifth inning and pitched three innings to get the win (3-0). SBCC starter Justin Bruce went the first 5-2/3 innings and all eight runs (five earned) on ten hits and three walks as his record fell to 4-4.
Freshman LF Connor McManigal stroked two hits, including a double, for SBCC (21-12 overall). Pinch hitter Brett Sesma tripled and scored in the ninth for the game's final score.
