Riverside Gets Back to .500 with 6-1 Home Win Over Golden West

RIVERSIDE -- Nick King had two infield singles, a walk and scored three times to pace the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's baseball team to a 6-1 home Orange Empire Conference (OEC) win over the visiting Golden West College (GWC) Rustlers Tuesday afternoon (March 25) at the Evans Sports Complex.

King, a sophomore SS from Palm Springs HS, walked and scored an unearned run in the first inning, singled to shortstop and scored in the sixth inning, and singled to shortstop and scored an unearned run in the seventh inning.

Riverside (12-12, 6-5 OEC) received solid starting pitching from sophomore LHP Don Sullivan (Upland / Upland HS). Sullivan went the first seven innings and allowed the one run (earned, in the fourth inning) on seven hits and three walks. He did not strike out a batter, but did induce ten flyball outs (one lineout, two popouts, and seven outfield flyouts) to improve to 3-1.

Golden West (11-15, 2-9 OEC) got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning to tie the score at 1-1, albeit short-lived. Sophomore CF Frank Califano (Alpine / Steele Canyon HS) smacked a bad hop single into centerfield which bounded high over the head of SS King to leadoff the fourth. After a well-executed run-and-hit single through vacated 2B hole and the rightside of the infield by sophomore C Andrew YazdanBakhsh (Garden Grove / Los Alamitos HS) allowed Califano to scamper to third, sophomore 3B Michael Farris (Garden Grove / Los Alamitos HS) drilled the first pitch he saw up the middle for a RBI single to score Califano.

Califano and Farris each had two hits to pace the Rustlers.

The Rustlers' starting RHP, sophomore Mitchel Moore (Cypress / Cypress HS), went the first six innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and five walks with two strikeouts as his record dropped to 1-6.

Both teams return to action on Thursday, Mar. 27, at 2 p.m. when Riverside visits the Cypress College Chargers and Golden West treks to face the Saddleback College Gauchos.
