Robles Drives in Five as Tigers Battle Back to .500 with 9-3 Home Win over Golden West
RIVERSIDE -- Receiving good pitching and productive hitting, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's baseball team went on to record a 9-3 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) home win over the visiting Golden West College (GWC) Rustlers Monday afternoon (March 3) at the Evans Sports Complex.
The game was made up from last Saturday's (Mar. 1) scheduled contest which was rained out.
Riverside (7-7, 1-1 OEC) had a quartet of Tigers lash out two hits apiece paced by freshman CF David Robles (San Bernardino / Rialto HS) who was two for two with a pair of two-run singles, plus a sacrifice bunt which drove in a run and a walk. Robles finishes with five RBI on the day.
RCC sophomore starting LHP Don Sullivan (Upland HS), also known as "Joe" in 2013, went the first six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks (but hit two batters) with one strikeout and induced ten groundball outs before being lifted after throwing 95 pitches (60 strikes). His record improved to 2-0 (with a 1.85 ERA in 34.0 innings pitched).
Golden West (10-7, 1-1 OEC) freshman 1B Jordan Lucio (Fountain Valley HS) went three for four. Lucio led off the second with a single to left field, went to third on an errant pick off throw by Sullivan and scored (unearned) on an infield out. GWC starting sophomore RHP Mitchel Moore (Cypress HS) went the first 4-1/3 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks (one strikeout) and saw his record fall to 2-2.
Both teams will continue OEC action on Tuesday, Mar. 4, at 2 p.m. when the Tigers will take to the road to face the Cypress College Chargers, while the Rustlers visit the Saddleback College Gauchos.
