Tigers Lose, 7-2, at Home to Mt. San Antonio After Winning Suspended Game, 6-5, in 15 innings.

RIVERSIDE -- The Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's baseball team saw an early lead evaporate as the Mt. San Antonio College (MSAC) Mounties score seven unanswered runs en route to a 7-2 victory over RCC Tuesday evening (Feb. 25) in a non-conference game at the Evans Sports Complex.

MSAC (5-6) parlayed four singles, a double and a hit batter into a four-run fourth to take a 4-2 lead and cruise from there. Tyler Grijalva had three hits, including a double, for MSAC.

Riverside (6-7) sandwiched two pair of first-inning singles around a hit batter for a pair of runs and a quick 2-0 lead. Sophomore SS Nick King ( Palm Springs / Palm Springs HS) singled to lead off the frame and scored on a RBI single by sophomore 3B Nick Bruno (Hemet / Hemet HS). Sophomore LF Paul Martinez (Riverside / Arlington HS) followed King with a single and scored on a RBI ground ball by sophomore RF Josh Clark (Granada Hills / Hillcrest Christian HS).

For the second consecutive game, King had four singles. Martinez and Clark each had two hits. Clark would have had a third hit, but missed first base and was erased, officially, pitcher to first base.

RCC sophomore relief LHP Josh DeVries (Mission Viejo / Capistrano Valley HS), the second of seven pitchers utilized, pitched the fateful fourth and allowed two runs (earned) on four hits to get saddled with the loss (0-1). MSAC starting sophomore LHP Daniel J. Diaz went the first 7.0 innings and allowed both runs (earned) on ten hits and no walks, but struck out seven to improve to 1-2.

In the completion of the game which was suspended at MSAC a week ago Tuesday (Feb. 18), RCC held on for a 6-5 win in 15 innings. The Tigers led, 6-3, with one out and a run already for MSAC in the bottom of the 15th when the game was suspended due to the sprinklers coming on late in the evening. When the game resumed, the Mounties scored twice more to get close.
