Escher & Elias-Romero Advance to Round of 16 in CCCAA Individual State Championships

Sophomore Natalie Escher and freshman Vashti Elias-Romero entered pool play at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Individual State Championships on Friday morning hunting for the opportunity to bring home a state title. The duo hit the sand with a winning mentality by sweeping all three of their matches and advancing to the round of 16 with ease.

Escher returns to the round of 16 for the second-consecutive season while Elias-Romero will make her inaugural appearance. The dynamic pairing entered into the bracket as the fifth seed from the South and carrying six-match winning streak.  

They began the afternoon wave with a two set victory over El Camino's Donatuccie and Lolola (21-15, 21-13), backed by a strong win over Foothill's Perelra and Stubblefield (21-12, 21-16). They capped their day one success with their third-consecutive match sweep over Sierra's Pelle and Shively (21-16, 23-21).

Escher & Elias-Romero will hit the sand in Chula Vista, CA at 10 a.m. against College of the Desert's Lyneis and Smith. They will begin play at 10 a.m. in search for a state title.
