Beach Volleyball Splits in Season Opener

The Riverside City College beach volleyball squad kicked off its 2018 campaign on Friday on the road against the Orange Coast College Pirates and the Santa Ana College Dons. Despite being swept by the Pirates, the Tigers fought back to defeat the Dons by the final score of 4-1.

Freshman Natalie Escher (Redlands, CA) and sophomore Brittney Diffine (Riverside, CA) were slotted as the top tandem and reigned supreme in two sets with scores reading 21-9, 21-17. Sophomore Marcella Rodriguez (Belize City, Belize) and freshman Julia Balancier (Moreno Valley, CA) followed with a victory as the number two squad with scores reading 21-13, 21-12.

Freshman tandem Lauren Dunmore (Northridge, CA) and Delany Beck (Riverside, CA) acted as the fourth team and endured a close contest. They ended up winning by the final scores of 19-21, 21-11, 17-15. Freshman Taylor Gardner (Colton, CA) and freshman Telanni Childs (Uplands, CA) rounded out the victories as the fifth team in a three-set match by the final counts of 18-21, 21-19, 15-12.

The Tigers (1-1) will continue action on Friday, March 2nd as they will face off against El Camino College and San Diego Mesa on the road beginning at 10 a.m.
