Vialpando & Wells Win Round of 32, Lose in Round of 16 at CCCAA Pairs Championships

SARATOGA -- Splitting two individual pairs contests, the sophomore tandem of Marissa Vialpando and Lauren Wells of the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's beach volleyball team saw its season come to an end last Saturday (May 6) at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Pairs Championships which were hosted by West Valley College.

In the Round of 32 (match #32), the Tigers' No. 1 doubles tandem (No. 3 seed) of sophomore Marissa Vialpando (Riverside - Notre Dame HS '15) and sophomore Lauren Wells (Corona / Riverside - Woodcrest Christian HS '15) defeated the Bakersfield pair of sophomore Brooke Horack and sophomore Jourdan Muro (seeded #30) in straight sets, 21-19, 21-15.

Later that Saturday, in the Round of 16 (match #23), Vialpando and Wells saw their season come to an end with a straight-set loss, 21-17, 21-19, to the Grossmont sophomore pair (seeded #19) of Robyn Arthur and Madeline Schaeffer.

Earlier in the week, in CCCAA South Regional Team Championships action, Riverside City lost, 3-2, to the Bakersfield College (BC) Renegades and lost, 3-2, as well to the host MiraCosta College (MC) Spartans (May 2). RCC finished 9-9 overall.

In its second season of existence, RCC is guided by second-year RCC head women's beach volleyball co-associate head coaches Jamie Hofman and Monica Hayes-Trainer. In 2017, RCC finished third in the OEC standings with a 5-2 record.
