Track & Field Hosts CSU Fullerton, UC Riverside Among Handful of Division I Competitors

Once a year, the Riverside City College track & field program hosts a very special and unique event being the RCC Invitational. A handful of Division I schools entered into the historical confines of Wheelock Stadium to compete against the Tigers. Riverside is the only program to host Division I opponents throughout the state and competed well with both sides landing in second place.

The men finished behind CSU Fullerton with an overall point total of 176. They defeated UC Riverside by 86 points. It is the second-consecutive season Riverside has beat UC Riverside on home turf.

For the men, a relay team consisting of sophomore Jabriel Smith, sophomore William Dower, sophomore Corey Howland and freshman Lorenzo Boyd placed second overall in the 4 x 100 M Relay (41.72) by seven one hundredths of a second.

Smith and Dower continued on to place consecutively in the 100 M. Smith hauled in the top spot (10.68), while Dower followed close behind in second (10.81). Freshman Evan Vigrass added to the first-place finishes by snapping the tape in the 400 M Hurdles (55.79).

Dower earned an individual first place finish in the Long Jump (24' 5.5"). He bested the second-place finisher by 15 inches. Freshman DeQuan Guillebeau earned a commanding victory in the Javelin (162' 5") by defeating the second-place finisher by 10 feet.

Freshman Ethan Hemminger landed in third place in the 800 M (1:55.59) after finishing lower than his seed time by nearly a second.

The women performed at a high level as seen in a handful of first-place finishes.

The Tigers swept the podium in the 400 M Dash with sophomore LaDajiah Wright snapping the tape (59.07). She carted the only sub minute mark in the meet. Freshman Dyana Miller placed second (1:01.38), while freshman Na'Kel Pennix-Webb placed third (1:01.60).

Sophomore speedster Alana Wilson hauled in a pair of the gold medals to highlight the sprints. She placed first in the 100 M (11.98) and the 200 M (24.73). Freshman Hailey Hunt followed with a seventh place finish in the 100 M (12.39).

The 4 x 400 M Relay team consisting of sophomore Annayah Pelt, Wright, Hunt and Wilson finished atop the podium (3:56.73).

Freshman Prentice Burris entered into her first-career meet and placed second in the Shot Put (41' 9.25"). Sophomore Keiana Turner followed with a first-place mark in the Hammer (164' 11").
