Giannore, Carson Place Third Overall at OEC Multi Championships

The Riverside City College track & field program hosted the 2020 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Multi Championships the past two days featured competition in the Heptathlon and the Decathlon. Riverside saw a pair of athletes land on the podium with Kaleigh Giannone earned third place for the women and Jonathon Carson placing third for the men.

A hurdler by nature, Giannore participated in her first ever Heptathlon and performed at a high level. The sophomore finished the day draped in bronze with an overall point total reading 3,103. She was three points away from overtaking the second place finisher.

She placed in the top three in all but one event. Her strongest mark came in the final event of the day with a top finish in the 800 M (2:36.30). She second place in the 100 M Hurdles (16.86), Shot Put (26' ¾") and the 200 M (28.16), while earning a third-place finish in the Long Jump (14' 3.75") and High Jump (3' 11.25").

Carson earned the top finish for the men by placing third overall with a point mark of 5,239.

He began the day by snapping the tape with a meet best time in the 100 M (11.39). He followed with two second place finishes directly after in the Long Jump (19' 10.25") and the Shot Put (30' 1").

He continued to excel with a top mark in the High Jump (5' 8"), backed by a second place finish in the 400 M (52.27). He capped his day with two second place finishes in the Discus (90' 6") and the Pole Vault (11' 9.75") leading to his third overall placing.

Freshman Kyle Dunning placed last in the event, but earned a top mark in the 1,500 M (4:45.34) by nearly 20 seconds.

Riverside will host the RCC Invitational which features multiple Division I teams on Friday, March 6 at home. The meet begins with the throwing events at 11 a.m.
