Riverside Places Second in Final NATYCAA Cup Standings

After 15 of 18 programs qualified for California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) playoffs, Riverside City College athletics has placed second overall in the 2019 National Alliance of Two-Year Collegiate Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) standings. Furthermore, RCC placed third in the nation in the 2018-19 Daktronics Cup standings.

Colleges are awarded points based on their team's final positions in playoff competition. A state championship is worth 20 points and so on. Riverside nearly snapped Mt. San Antonio's nine-year winning streak, but fell a mere three points shy. Riverside earned a total of 159 points placing second to the Mounties who earned 162 points.

It is the highest placing Riverside has earned since 2016-17 where we placed second overall after a state championship from men's cross country and women's water polo. In the past 15 years, Riverside has not dropped out of the top-10 in the standings. The Tigers have placed as high as second on three separate occasions with this year's margin from first place being the smallest it has ever been.

Riverside track & field programs highlighted the Riversid's efforts with the men's track & field state championship title earning 20 points. The women's second place finish brought home 19 points. The football squad's fifth-consecutive Southern Regional Championship appearance awarded RCC 17.5 points, while the women's tennis team's run matched the 17.5 points. Men's swimming & diving placed fourth at the state championships to earn 17 overall points, while men's cross country followed with 16 points.

Other notable finishes include women's water polo (15.5), women's cross country (14) and women's swimming & diving (13).
