Riverside Breaks Records, Defeats Top Competitors at RCC Open

The Riverside City College track and field program hosted some of the top competitors the California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA) has to offer on Friday afternoon. Both sides dominated the likes of El Camino College and Mt. San Antonio College leading to the third dual victory of the season.

The most impressive mark of the day came from sophomore speedster Antonio Mitchell. The Arizona State University commit snapped the RCC record in the 100 M by crossing the finsih line at a time of 10.16. He broke the record previously held by Justin Thymes at 10.18. Sophomore Jamal Palmer followed finished in second place at a time of 10.64.

The pair teamed up in the 4 x 100 M Relay and placed first with a time of 41.15. Keanon Dennis and Keylan Dennis made up the final two leg of the relay.

The Tigers hauled in an exciting 4 x 800 M Relay in come-from-behind fashion. Joshua Briscoe and Matthew Lieberman were responsible for the opening two legs and placing them in second. Enrique Villa ran the third leg and picked up the slack, bringing them even closer to the top spot. Mohamed Mohammed was responsible for the final 800 M and picked up nearly five second on Mt. SAC, completing the relay at a mark of 7:54.15 to place first overall.

Sophomore Marcos Gonzalez improved his state-pacing mark in the Javelin by chucking a career-high 194' mark. The next best finished was Riverside's Patrick Maria and he recorded a mark reading 153' 4".

Sophomore Alec Jones placed first in the Discus with a mark of 153' 3" and the Hammer with a chuck reading 168' 10".

Freshman Julian Rodriguez-Richards reigned supreme in the 200 M with a clip of 22.12. He continued by placing second in the 400 M with a mark of 49.14. Sophomore Keanon Dennis snapped the tape in the 400 M with a time of 48.89.

Villa continues to dominate his events as seen in a victory in the 1,500 M with a time of 4:01.05.  

Freshman Alana Wilson paced the women in sprints by recording a meet-best 12.21 in the 100 M. She placed second in the 200 M with a time of 25.21 as well.

Freshman Annayah Pelt earned a pair of gold medal on the day with a 200 M mark of 24.95 and a 400 M clip of 57.57.

Sophomore Sujey Esteva placed first in the 3,000 M by finishing nine seconds in front of the second place finisher. She recorded a time of 10:45.43.

Riverside was victorious in all four of the relays. Highlighting the marks was a team comprised of Mariah Allain, Alondra Gonzalez, Wilson and Pelt to record a meet-best 47.79 in the 4 x 100 M Relay.

Sophomore Angelique Hudson continued to dominate in the Shot Put and earned a state-qualifying mark of 41' 10.5". Freshman Tayler Salley earned a state-qualifying mark in the Hammer with a mark of 149' 4".
