Men Place Second, Women Place Third at Ben Brown Invitational

The Riverside City College track & field program continued to face off against the best California has to offer as they competed in the Ben Brown Invitational beginning on Friday morning and concluding on Saturday night. Both side performed well with the men placing second and the women hauling in third.

The Tigers placed first in the 4 x 400 M Relay as Julian Rodriguez-Richards, Griggs, Jamal Palmer and Keanon Dennis earned a mark of 3:18.28, finishing approximately one second better than Cal Poly Pomona. The relay teams remained strong as the Tigers placed second in the 4 x 100 M Relay. The squad was comprised of sophomore Antonio Mitchell, freshman Jabriel Smith, Palmer and Kea. Dennis. They earned a time of 40.70 which was five one hundredths of a second off the first-place finishing Army West Point.

Smith continued on to compete in the 100 M and snapped the tape with a meet-best mark of 10.59. Palmer followed in fourth place at a clip of 10.68. Sophomore Mohamed Mohammed placed second in the 800 M run with a time of 1:55.77.

Freshman duo Michael McHugh and Giovanni Medina finished consecutively in the 3,000 M Steeplechase with times reading 11:14.01 and 11:38.80, respectively.

Sophomore Enrique Villa paced the distance runners with a gold-medal finish in the one mile run with a time of 4:26.25. Matthew Liebermann followed in seventh place with a mark of 4:36.01.

Freshman Annayah Pelt earned a first-place mark in the 400 M with a time of 57.57. She continued on to place third in the 200 M with a mark of 25.51. Sophomore Maribel Madera finished second in the 5,000 M with a mark of 13:03.12, backed by a third-place finish from freshman Aily Camacho at a time of 13:35.70.

Riverside will return home on Friday, March 15 to host the RCC open. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
