Cross Country Excels at CCCAA State Championships

The Riverside City College cross country program participated in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state championships on Saturday morning in Woodward Park. The Tigers, who have been a state staple for the past decade plus, performed well once again as the men placed fifth overall and the women placed seventh overall to cap their season on a high note.

The men saw a pair of Tigers land in the top-30 with sophomore Austin Dai pacing the pack. He landed in 22nd with a total time of 20:57.9. Sophomore Enrique Villa, who was recently named the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Runner of the Year for the second-consecutive season, placed 29th with a clip reading 21:07.5.

"We have a young team that put a nice race together," said Head Coach Jim McCarron. "We are proud of their progression and excited for what they can do this track and field season."

Freshman Darvale Jackson landed in the top-40 with a 36th-place showing with a mark of 21:17.8. Freshman Tyler Graves earned a time of 21:35.4 to land in 55th place, while freshman Mohamed Mohammed placed 62nd with a time of 21:43.3.

The women earned a seventh place finish with sophomore Sujey Esteva finishing first for the Tigers with a time of 19:15.1. to land just outside the top-20 at 21st overall. Freshman Aily Camacho placed 48th overall with a time of 19:55.4.

Freshman Savannah Dinco following with a time of 20:08.6 to place 58th overall, while freshman Ladaijah Wright was right on her teammate's heels by placing 59th with a time of 20:09.3.
