Vashti Elias-Romero & Enrique Villa Named Student-Athlete Advisory Council October Athletes of the Month

It was voted on by the Riverside City College Athletics' Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) that freshman Vashti Elias-Romero of the women's indoor volleyball team and sophomore Enrique Villa of the men's cross country team have been named September Athletes of the Month by S.A.A.C. team representatives.

In order to be nominated for S.A.A.C. Athlete of the Month, a student-athlete must display an exemplary attitude both on and off their respected playing field. They must perform well in the classroom and in competition while consistently representing Riverside Athletics in a positive manner.

Vashti Elias-Romero

It is an understatement to say that Elias-Romero has already proven she will be a dominant threat throughout her career at RCC. It was clear from the beginning that the Redlands, CA native would take the reigns of the Tiger's offensive unit. She did so after completing her inaugural season with 221 kills leading to a 2.83 kills-per-set clip and 3.3 points-per-set mark. He defensive talents shined as she was second on the team in digs with 256 and digs-per-set with 3.28. She landed in double-digit kills and digs simultaneously in eight games. She recorded 15 digs in five matches and recorded a season-high 24 digs in a victory over Victor Valley.

Enrique Villa

If Villa was force to pay rent for how many times he has landed on the top of the podium this year, he would surely declare bankruptcy. He followed his phenomenal 2017 campaign with an equally as strong showing in 2018 highlighted by being named the 2018 OEC Runner of the Year for the second-consecutive season. He reigned supreme in the OEC Championships after crossing the finish line with a mark of 21:23.1 and placed 16 second ahead of the second-place finisher. He followed a week later at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regionals by placing ninth overall with a clip of 21:12.4.
