Riverside Track & Field Continues to Set State Marks

The Riverside City College track & field program competed against various Division I opponents this past weekend at Drake stadium in the 2018 Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational hosted by UCLA. Both sides earned solid marks to hold their own against top competition in the country. They earned numerous state-pacing marks in the process. 

For the men, sophomore Alec Hall continued to impress in the 1500M by earning a mark of 3:54.54 which currently ranks third overall in California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). Freshman Keylan Dennis followed by earning the second-strongest time in the CCCAA in the 400M with a clip of 47.14. Freshman Xaviar Montgomorey jumped into the rankings with a time of 49.00 to earn the 15th-strongest time in the state.

The Tigers currently rank tops in the state in the 4 X 400 Relay with Christopher Shiley, Antonio Mitchell, Keylan Dennis, and Keanon Dennis teaming up to earn a clip of 39.91. 

Freshman Dillion Lay paced the Tigers in the 110M Hurdles with a mark of 15.39, while also placing sixth in the 400M Hurdles with a time of 57.54. Freshman Jamal Palmer placed fifth in the 100M with a mark of 10.68, while sophomore Anthony Butts earned a clip of 54.99 in the 400M Hurdles.

Freshman Delton Woods and sophomore Joshua Duque finished consecutively in the 800M with times of 1:56.21 and 1:56.25, respectfully. Sophomore Michael Robinson placed fifth in the 3000M after crossing the finish line at a time of 8:52.89 to highlight the distance performances.

Freshman Justin Reed earned a set of top 10 finishes on the day highlighted by a third-place showing in the High Jump with a clip of 5' 10 ¾". He followed with an eighth-place showing in the Long Jump with a mark of 20' 9".

The Tigers placed back-to-back in the Discus with freshman Alec Jones earning first place with a mark of 162' 1" and sophomore Jordan Davis earning second place with a toss of 161' 9". They both sit fourth and fifth, respectfully, in the state rankings.

For the women, freshman Sarah Hollis earned the strongest time in the 3000M amongst community college competitors with a mark of 10:24.67. Her time ranks first in the state by approximately four seconds.

Sophomore Makenzie Matteson earned a sixth-place showing in the 400M with a time of 1:00.66.

Riverside thrived in the throws with sophomore Ca'may Stocker earning a toss of 138' to rank fourth in the state. Freshman Angelique Hudson now holds the strongest mark in the state in the Shot Put after recording a distance of 46' 11".

The Tigers complete the regular season and are set to host the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships with the prelims beginning this Friday, April 20th at 10 a.m.
