Track & Field Routes Saddleback and Orange Coast in Conference Meet
The Riverside City College Track and Field program picked up Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action on Friday by facing off against the Saddleback College Gauchos and the Orange Coast College Pirates on the road. Both sides dominated the completion by going 2-0.
The men went 2-0 by defeating Saddleback, 130-18.5, and Orange Coast, 133-19.
Sophomore Alec Jones impressed in the field events as he hauled in two first-place marks. He recorded a 158' 8" mark in the Discus and a 44' 1.5" in the Shot Put. Freshman Jonathon Garibay placed tops in the Javelin with a chuck of 158' 6".
Field events continued on strong for the Tigers as they hauled in four more first-place crowns. Anthony Garcia reigned supreme in the Long Jump with a mark of 21' 10.75", while Ellis Glover earned a 43' 7" mark in the Triple Jump. Baylee Carter hauled in a top finish in the High Jump with a 6' 1.5" and Tyler Harper earned a 13' 5.75" in the Pole Vault.
Speed killed for the Tigers once again as they dominated nearly every event. Keanon Dennis earned atop time in the 400M with a mark of 47.46. Mamadu Mansaray followed with a first-place showing in the 100M with a clip of 11.85, while Dillon Lay blazed to a 15.63 mark in the 100 M Hurdles. Anthony Butts earned a first-place showing in the 400M Hurdles with a time of 54.80.
Distance was no issue for Riverside as well with Michael Robinson earning a first place finish in the 1500M with a time of 4:05.41. Angel Campos was just as strong by notching a first-place finish in the 5000M with a time of 15:44.04.
The Tigers swept the podium in the 800M with Delton Woods leading the way with a first place finishing time of 1:54.70. Enrique Villa followed with a second-place time of 1:54.90, backed by a bronze medal clip of 1:55.70 from Ricardo Cardenas.
The women went 2-0 on the day by routing Saddleback, 108-40, and dominating Orange Coast, 117-42.
Maryjane Smith led the Tigers with a pair of first place finishes. She began the day by snapping the tape in the 400M with a mark of 57.68. She continued on to dominate the 200M with a clip of 26.23. Sha'quan Matthews displayed her wheels in the 100M Hurdles with a time of 15.16, while Argnae Meyers earned the gold medal in the 100M with a dash of 12.86.
Dehjiah Jones continued the winning trend with a victory in the 400M Hurdles after boasting a time of 1:07.18. Carissa Gomez followed suit with a 5000M win with a time of 19:37.62.
The field events performed well with Javany McDermott highlighting the bunch. She earned a pair of first-place finishes coming in the Triple Jump (34' 5.5") and the High Jump (4' 11"). Katelyn Baker followed with a top finish in the Long Jump with a mark of 15' 3.5", while Karen Orozco placed first in the Pole Vault with a leap of 10'. Angelique Hudson finished the day with a victory in the Shot Put with a chuck of 41' 4.25".
The Tigers continue action on Saturday, March 24th at the Aztec Invitational against various Division I opponents.
