Track & Field Boasts Numerous State Marks at Redlands Invite
The Riverside City College track & field program continued action on Friday night by participating in the Redlands Invitational on the campus of the University of Redlands. Both sides performed very well against a variety of competitors ranging from Division I, II, II and community college levels. The men set numerous state-pacing marks while the women placed in the top-10 in numerous events.
Men
Freshman Antonio Mitchell continued to put his wheels on display by earning a second-place mark in the 100M with a clip of 10.51. He currently paces the community college field with his mark of 10.31 that he set earlier this month. His 10.51 mark acts as the second-fastest mark in the state.
Freshman tandem Keylan Dennis and Keanon Dennis finished consecutively in the 400M with times of 47.42 and 48.27, respectfully. Keylan Dennis' time pushes him to second overall in state in the 400M.
The 800M continued to be a strong event for the Tigers as sophomore Alec Hall, who is the state leader, earned a mark of 1:55.30. Freshman Enrique Villa followed with a time of 1:55.76. Villa and Hall continued on to place back-to-back in the 1500M as Villa earned a mark of 3:57.07 to snap the tape. Hall followed with a mark of 3:57.21. Both 1500M times now pace the state.
Sophomore Jeffery Robbins placed second in the 5000M with a mark of 15:39.35, while sophomore Deion Molina followed with a clip of 15:41.95. Freshman Dillon Lay reigned supreme in the 400M Hurdles with a mark of 55.46.
Freshman Baylee Carter placed second in the High Jump with a mark of 6' .75". He continues to hold the state lead with a mark of 6' 6" earned in early February. Sophomore Jordan Davis placed first in the Shot Put with a mark of 48' 8".
Women
Freshman Maryjane Smith had a strong showing in the 400M with a time of 58.68 to place second overall. Freshman Jayea McMillan followed with a sixth place finish with a clip of 1:00.43.
Freshman Sujey Esteva placed ninth in the 5000M with a mark of 20:20.02 backed by a 10th place finish from Sha'quan Matthews in the 100M Hurdles. Sophomore Dehjiah Joseph earned a fourth-place finish in the 400M Hurdles with a mark of 1:09.52.
Sophomore Javany McDermott performed well in the High Jump leaping to a second-place showing with a mark of 5' 1.75". She followed with an eighth place finish in the Triple Jump earning a clip of 34' .25".
The Tigers will continue action on Friday, March 23rd and compete against Orange Coast and Saddleback.
