Swimming & Diving Notches Strong Results in OEC Competition

The Riverside City College swimming and diving program took to Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action this past Friday evening in the first OEC meet of the season. The women placed second after notching a point total of 489, while the men earned third place with a mark of 427 points.

For the women, freshman Supavee Nilaad was the top performer for the Tigers with an overall mark of 42. Her strongest finish was in the 200 Back where she placed third with a time of 2:29.14. She began her day with a fifth place finish in the 50 Free after touching the wall with a mark of 26.83.

Freshman Monet Marquez earned a trio of top-10 finishes highlighted by a fourth-place showing in the 200 Free with a clip of 2:12.69. Freshman Ysatis Lujan (Jurupa Valley, CA) also experienced three top-10 finishes highlighted by a fourth-place showing in the 100 Free. Freshman Hannah McCarley (Riverside, CA) placed second in the 100 Breaststroke with a mark of 1:19.49.

For the men, sophomore Farouk Zaoui earned 42 points and acted as the strongest swimmer for the Tigers. He earned a set of fourth place finishes with the first coming in the 200 Free with a clip of 1:49.60, backed by a 18:39.89 time in the 1650 Free. He also placed seventh in the 200 Back after touching the wall at a time of 2:09.51.

Freshman Alexandre Piron followed as the second-strongest finisher for the men by totaling 41 points. He placed fourth in the 100 Fly with a mark of 55.43. He followed with a fifth place finish in the 100 Free with a time of 49.26, while placing seventh in the 50 Free with a clip of 22.81.

Freshman Javier Bernal earned a first-place showing in the 200 Fly with a mark of 1:57.99, while freshman Brandon Doyle earned three top 10 finishes highlighted by sixth-place showing in the 200 IM (2:03.36) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:19.17).

The Tigers will host their first meet of the season beginning Friday, March 9th in the Riverside Invitational.
