Track & Field: Men Place First, Women Place Third in DI Showdown

The Riverside City College track & field program hosted a trio of Division I programs on Saturday evening that featured Pepperdine, UC Riverside, and Cal State Fullerton at Wheelock Stadium. After boasting impressive seed times that were competitive with all three teams, the Tigers performed at a very high level. The men placed first by routing the three teams with a total of 117 points, while the women placed third with 46 total points.

For the men, Riverside set the pace with sprints and never looked back. Freshman Antonio Mitchell wowed the meet by snapping the tape in the 100M with a mark of 10.31. Freshman Keylan Dennis followed with a first place finish in the 200M with a mark of 21.38. Freshman Keanon Dennis earned a top-finish in the 400M with a mark of 49.80 which was .15 seconds faster than the second place runner.

The Tigers 4 x 100M Relay finished tops in the field with a team made up of sophomore Christopher Shiley, Kea. Dennis, Key. Dennis, and Mitchell. They notched a time of 40.38.

Freshman Enrique Villa hauled in the gold medal in the 3000M with a time of 8:42.17, while sophomore Alec Hall placed second in the 1500M with a time of 3:57.43 – a mere second off the first-place mark.

Sophomore Jeffery Robbins placed first in the 3000M Steeplechase with a mark of 10:07.35. Sophomore Joshua Duque reigned supreme in the 800M with a time of 1:59.15, while freshman Delton Woods followed with a time of 1:59.31.

Freshman Baylee Carter placed first in the High Jump with a mark of 6' 2". Freshman Elijah Stewart followed in third place with a height of 5' 8". Freshman Tyler Harper stood atop the podium in the Pole Vault with a mark of 14' 4.75".

Freshman Jonathan Garibay dominated the Javelin with a mark of 177' 10", while sophomore Jordan Davis earned a first-place finish in the Discus with a toss of 153' 3".

For the women, sophomore Valentina Sanabria earned a first-place finish in the 100M Hurdles with a mark of 15:87. Freshman Alondra Palmer followed with a second place showing in the 400M Hurdles with a time of 1:09.72.

Sophomore Javany McDermott placed first in the High Jump uncontested with a mark of 4' 11.75". Sophomore Jordaine Simmons finished the day for the women with a top finish in the Shot Put with a mark of 40' 8.24".

The Tigers will continue action on Wednesday, March 7th as they will host the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Multi Championships at home.
