Riverside Athletics Week in Review – 12/18/17: Men’s Basketball Takes Down Long Beach, Women’s Hoops Jumps into Southern Rankings

Riverside Athletics Week in Review – 12/18/17: Men’s Basketball Takes Down Long Beach, Women’s Hoops Jumps into Southern Rankings

Men's Basketball

The Tigers were the lone team in action this past week as they defeated the Long Beach City College Vikings by the final score of 74-66. Riverside shot lights out from the floor as they earned a shooting percentage of an even 60. While they did not have as much success from beyond the arc as they did in their latest victory against East Los Angeles, they dominated paint play highlighted by racking up 39 total rebounds. Additionally, they cashed in at the charity stripe. Sophomore point guard Brae Ivey (Huntington Beach, CA) teased the stat sheet with the idea of a triple-double as he flushed 13 points, reeled in 11 rebounds, and dished out nine assists. His nine assists acted as a season high. He was as efficient as he has been this season by only recording one turnover – a season low. Four of Ivey's assist found the hands of freshman forward Jordan Robinson (Riverside, CA) who finished with a double-double as well. He led all scorers with 25 points and racked up 11 rebounds. His 25-point showing acts as a season high highlighted by his 11-for-16 performance from the hardwood.

In the Rankings

Riverside ranks 14th in the south after beginning the season with a record of 7-5 and winning their annual holiday tournament. In their championship victory in the Riverside Holiday Tournament, the Tigers defeated the state's no. 9 ranked East Los Angeles by the final score of 72-63. Additionally, they defeated Bakersfield earlier in the season who is receiving votes in the southern region.

Women's Basketball

The Tigers jumped into the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) southern rankings at tied for 15th following a consolation championship victory in the 41st Annual Gilcrest Tournament. Riverside earns its first ranking by beginning the season with an overall record of 7-5. They have defeated a trio of teams that are ranked in their respected regions. The Tigers took down the north's No. 12 Solano a pair of times, followed by victories over No. 13 Glendale and No. 14 Cerritos in the south. Sophomore standout Dejah Wright (Moreno Valley, CA) paces the team with 19.3 points-per-game highlighted by a record-breaking 44 point showing earlier in the season against Grossmont. Freshman guard Kimari Hollis (Moreno Valley, CA) follows by netting 13 points-per-game.
