Men Place Second, Women Place Seventh at the CCCAA State Championships

The Riverside City College men's and women's cross country teams hit the trails in Fresno, CA for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships this Saturday against stiff competition. The men ran incredibly well by placing second overall (1:43:37.3) by a very slim margin, while the women earned seventh overall (1:38:49.8).

Sophomore Ricardo Cardenas and freshman Enrique Villa finished back-to-back, respectfully, to pace the men's side. Cardenas earned an overall time of 20:38.8 which was a mere second away from landing on the podium. Villa followed closely behind with a clip of 20:31.1. Both individuals received All-American honors

"Every one of our guys in the top five ran the best race of the season," said Head Coach Jim McCarron. "We are really proud of our guys and they left everything out on that course.

Freshman Angel Campos placed 13th overall with a mark of 20:40.0 to earn All-American status as well.

Sophomore Sarah Hollis paced the women by earning the bronze medal with a clip of 18:25.5. It is the eight-consecutive meets where she has placed in the top-three. Robin Valencia followed with a time of 19:37.8 mark.
