Sarah Hollis & Bo Loftin Named S.A.A.C. October Athletes of the Month

It was voted on by the Riverside City College Athletics' Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) that sophomore Sarah Hollis (Hemet, CA) of the women's cross country team and freshman driver Bo Loftin (Mira Loma, CA) of the men's water polo team were named October Athletes of the Month by S.A.A.C. team representatives.

In order to be nominated for S.A.A.C. Athlete of the Month, a student-athlete must display an exemplary attitude both on and off their respected playing field. They must perform well in the classroom and in competition while always representing Riverside Athletics in a positive manner no matter what setting they find themselves present.

Sarah Hollis

Hollis, a veteran leader on the trail for the Tigers, recently led her team to RCC's fourth-consecutive Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championship crown. In the midst of a team championship, Hollis hauled in the individual title and was named the 2017 OEC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year. She snapped the tape with an overall time of 18:25.9 which was a victory by a landslide.

Hollis followed a week later by placing second in the Southern California Championships which marks the seventh-consecutive meet she landed on the podium. She has earned three first-places finishes, two second-place finishes, and two third-place finishes this season.

Bo Loftin

Loftin has been a staple in the pool for the Tigers as he recently helped lead his squad to a third-place finish in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Championships this past weekend. They defeated Saddleback, 13-8, and they look forward to facing off against them again in the first round of the Southern California Championships as the eighth overall seed. In the victory, Loftin netted two goals, dished out one assist, and pocketed one steal.

Loftin currently leads his team in goals with 45 while adding 21 assists, 32 steals, and 18 drawn ejections. His aggressive nature is something he prides himself on in order to reach these impressive numbers. He has scored three of more goals on nine separate occasions. He recorded a season-high and career-high five goals in a 15-4 victory over Merced.
