Hannah McCarley & Vic Viramontes Named S.A.A.C. September Athletes of the Month

It was voted on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council that sophomore quarterback Vic Viramontes (Norco, CA) and freshman goalkeeper Hannah McCarley were named September Athletes of the Month for the month of September. Both student-athletes have shown excellent attitudes in the classroom and have performed very well for their respected teams.

Viramontes has been a staple for the No. 2 Riverside City College Tigers since the beginning of the season. After earning the starting role in week three, the Norco High School graduate has solidified himself as the top offensive weapon in the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) Central Division and one of the top Division I prospects at the community college level.

Viramontes has taken the division by storm in numerous categories. Through the air, he has completed 41-of-68 passes for a total of 624 yards leading to nine touchdowns. His totals have led him to an efficiency rating of 169.3. His brute mentality on the ground is even more impressive as he is the Tiger's leading rusher. He has carted the ball 71 times for 714 yards leading to seven touchdowns. Additionally, he has averaged 142.8 rushing yards-per-game. All numbers are team-highs as he is well on his way to rushing for over 1,000 yards on the season.

A number of his season totals land in the top five in the state. His 142.8 rushing yards-per-game is tops in California by nearly 10 yards-per-game. His seven rushing touchdowns ranks third in the state as well.

Viramontes prior Division I talents may give him an advantage to most, but he continues to perform against solid teams. So far this season, he has defeated a handful of ranked team in Golden West, Bakersfield, and Ventura. In each of those games, he has accounted for at least one touchdown and has rushed for over a bill. He faces two three more ranked opponents this season in Long Beach, El Camino, and Mt. San Antonio.

In the simplest terms, McCarley is a master at her craft. In her inaugural season as a Tiger, she has single handedly kept Riverside in some games en route to a 14-1 record so far. Her impressive numbers throughout the season have earned her the S.A.A.C. Female Athlete of the Month award.

She has participated in all but one contest this season and has amassed 120 total saves. Furthermore, she has tallied double-digit saves in seven games this season highlighted by a 16-save effort in an 8-2 victory over San Joaquin Delta.

In games that Riverside has won by less than six goals, she has recorded eight saves or more to prove her value in the cage. In her lone loss, she was edged in double-overtime and still recorded 15 saves, which is one save below her career-high mark.

At the state level, McCarley ranks seventh in saves (120) and seventh in saves percentage (69.4). She ranks third in saves and first in saves percentage in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC).
