CCCAA UPDATES - Updated as of 4/29/2020 at 11:29 A.M.

    1. the Form 3 system is not yet ready to accept seasons of competition for our spring sport student-athletes, but you may begin to prepare for this process.  As you do, please also make sure that your coaches are identifying those individual(s) who were NOT in good standing as of March 12, 2020.  Good standing is defined as having quit or been cut from the team prior to that date, which is when the spring seasons were postponed.  Institutions will identify those individuals by checking a box to indicate who was NOT in good standing on the Form 3 once the programmers have completed their work.  This is information we don’t normally capture but is necessary based on the restoration of the season of competition unanimously approved by the Board last week for those student-athletes in good standing.
    2. On a positive note, Division II, Division III and the NAIA have all indicated that they will honor the waivers of other governing bodies where we have restored the season of competition for spring sport-student-athletes.  Division I is requiring that their institutions submit waivers on behalf of such student-athletes, as such things are handled by the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee.  The other nuance that we’re currently dealing with is for our swimming and diving student-athletes.   The sport is considered a winter sport for the NCAA and the NAIA and currently, only the NAIA is accepting our waiver.  The NCAA is advising that such student-athletes would have to go through the waiver process, but it is on the list to be reviewed.  Their list of items are north of 100 for each division. The Executive Director is continuing to work with the NCAA on this matter.
    3. Recruiting

The recruiting ban that was put in place until April 15 has been extended and will remain in place until the statewide shelter-in-place order has been lifted.  This means that until further notice, all face to face recruiting and travel related to recruiting, is prohibited.

After consulting with the leadership of both coaches’ associations, the respective Management Council Representatives and the Chair of the Management Council, the waivers that were issued during the 19-20 academic year for men’s and women’s basketball have been extended for the 20-21 academic year.

    4. Basketball Playing Rule Waivers

After consulting with the leadership of both coaches’ associations, the respective Management Council Representatives and the Chair of the Management Council, the waivers that were issued during the 19-20 academic year for men’s and women’s basketball have been extended for the 20-21 academic year.  This means that for men’s and women’s basketball the shot clock will not be reset after an offensive rebound and for men’s basketball the three-point line will not be moved.  The waivers related to the shot clock become moot if the legislation is voted on and the proposal making the waiver permanent is approved.  As we don’t know when the shelter-in-place order will be lifted, we don’t know that the three-point lines will be able to added to everyone’s floors for the 20-21 season.

    1. Fall Sports Seasons

I will be surveying the coach’s associations of our fall sports as well as our athletic trainers to determine how much time will be needed to prepare our student-athletes for the regular season if the shelter-in-place or the move to online classes for the summer by our colleges both extend into the summer and impacts summer conditioning classes and the start of practice in August.
